Popular commercial films use the conventions of classical continuity editing, which the audience is familiar with. Classical continuity editing -defined as a set of dominant formal techniques that classical narrative cinema used throughout the 20th century and up to nowadays - relies on a number of editing principles in order to achieve its most basic goal. This goal is to make sure that the audiences believe that they are witnessing something really happened, forgetting that they are actually watching a film. Popular commercial films in Turkish Cinema maintain these conventions. The films that arguably called art films, on the other hand often tend to have an aesthetics which associated with contemporary festival films, that depends on long shots, slow tempo and hence uses editing in a minimal way. However, the editing styles used in Dot and Thou Gild'st The Even differ from all the conventions mentioned above and thus they appear among the most prominent modernist examples of late Turkish cinema in terms of form. In this study, the specific sequences of these two films are analyzed by using the "shot by shot analysis" method in order to prove their distinctness
