PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ SOCIAL MEDIA USAGE PRACTICES

Social media usage reasons and needs may show the differences in different groups and environmental media. At the same time the effect of social media on society, culture and the individual may be variable. This study was made to determine Cukurova University Physical Education and Sports High School student’s usage of social media, their concentration movements in social media in the context of social network theory and their usage reasons. 150 students from Physical Education and Sports High School participated in the study. The data were collected with "personal information form " and "the purpose of the usage of social networks scale’’. Descriptive statistics and non-parametric tests Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H tests were used to analyze the data. It was determined that the majority of the students have a profile on social media network and used media networks are in order, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. It has been observed that students use social media mostly for cooperation. In addition to this, it has been determined that there are significant differences on "initialization of communication" among the departments. As a result, it was determined that almost all of the students used social media and that the aims of using social media were cooperation, content sharing, maintaining communication, research, entertainment, initiating communication and communicating respectively
