Knowledge and Thoughts of Midwifery Students about Natural Birth

Aim: Natural births are those that are, as much as possible, not intervened. The study was conducted as a descriptive to determine knowledge and thoughts of midwifery students about natural birth who were enrolled in a University Faculty of Health Sciences. Material and Methods: The universe of this study included 90 midwifery students. The choice of sampling wasn’t done. 76 students who are ready on the day when the research was done and accept to participate in the study were included in the study. The data were collected by means of question form prepared by the researcher using information in literature. In the analysis of the data obtained in the study, SPSS 20.0 program was used. First, descriptive statistics (arithmetic mean, standard deviation, percent) of the data were calculated, then the relationships between categorical variables were examined using Pearson Chi-square and Fisher's Exact tests. Significance level in the study was taken as 0.05. Results: At the end of the research we found of students 61.8% told that they heard from natural birth, and 31.6% of them did this concept at the school. Only 38.2% of students knew natural birth correctly. Although students thought positive about natural birth, (96.1 % of students should start automatically of births, 81.6 % of students must be the freedom of movement of female at birth and so on) they mostly support normal birth, and their knowledge about natural birth was poor. Conclusion: Although students thought positive about natural birth, they mostly support normal birth, and their knowledge about natural birth was poor.
