Abstract:

Arthrodesis is a salvage procedure that can be preferred in joint dislocations. In small animal practice, arthrodesis is generally performed for tarsal and carpal joint problems. Various operative techniques have been described to perform an appropriate arthrodesis. In tarsal luxations, compression and rigid fixation can be achieved at a functional angle with partial arthrodesis. The study consisted of 41 cats with tarsocrural luxation, who were brought to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Veterinary Services Department Cebeci Animal Shelter between 2015-2017 with the complaint to stray animal of traffic accident. All patients were treated with partial arthrodesis by fixing only the tarsocrural joint. As a result of the study, it was seen that a single kirschner wire which were sent to medulla of the tibia from medial side of the talus could be provide a sufficient partial arthrodesis. In conclusion, it was seen that, patients could reach a functional gait with a low postoperative complication rate with this technique
