THE PERCEPTIONS OF ACCOUNTING PROFESSION FOR PARENTS OF STUDENTS WHO TAKE ACCOUNTING COURSES: A FIELD RESEARCH

When accounting profession is considered in terms of "information" that it has produced and "information users" who are using this information; is one of the profession types that are assuming an important responsibility. Although the level of importance is so high; unfortunately compared with developed countries, "accounting profession" does not see sufficient interest and concern in Turkey. Accounting profession, ranked in the last order among the preferred occupations in terms of the potential young workforce, especially graduates from related departments of universities. Along with various reasons for this situation, it can be shown that one of the main reasons is that the students decide their preferences in the direction of their parents' orientations. The subject of this study is to determinate the level of general knowledge about the accounting profession of parents of university students and their perceptions. In this respect, by conducting a questionnaire to the parents of 439 students who are considering to be professional who are among the 728 students at Sel？uk University Ak？ehir Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences; it is aimed to determine the level of parents' perception of the accounting profession and to propose solutions to the identified problems. With the questionnaire including multiple-choice and Likert-based questions and results obtained from selved samples will be analyzed with the help of SPSS (Statistical Packeges for the Social Sciences) package program
