Abstract:

In 1923, the Turkish-Greek Governments signed the Treaty of Lausanne, which was discussed and decided in the first phase of the Lausanne Conference. According to the signed agreement between Greece and Turkey, Muslim population living in Greece and the Orthodox population living in Turkey were going to exchanged One of the places for the exchange of population is the island of Crete. It was foreseen that approximately 25-30 thousand Muslim Turks would migrate from this island. The cities of Crete such as Candi, Rethymno and Cana were the most intense places where migration happened. It was aimed to address the pressure of the Greek government on the Muslim Turkish immigrants in Crete and the direction of this situation reflected in the Turkish press. The Greek government followed a policy of oppression on the Turkish immigrants in order to ensure that they could emigrate without the time to sell their goods and property. These immigrants settled in places where the olive cultivation was generally important, such as in Edremit, Ayval?k, Dar?ca, Gemlik, Mudanya, Bodrum. In this study, newspapers such as Ahenk, Tanin, Vatan, Zaman, Hakimiyet-i Milliye, ?leri have been used
