Evaluation of Cost Efficiency for HbA1c Test

Aim: This study was carried out in Sakarya University Education and Research Hospital between 2015-2016. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cost efficiency of the hospital in terms of HbA1c test parameters. Material and Method: Three months before and 3 months after the establishment of the Laboratory Efficiency Commission (LVK), the data were scanned through automation. The data were evaluated statistically. In this study, the requested HbA1c test parameter was examined in patients with Diabetes Mellitus, which is common in the community. Results: When the period before and after LVK was compared, the number of HbA1c test decreased significantly. The number of HbA1c tests before LVK was 8665 and the number of tests after LVK was 8013. As a result of the meeting, a decrease of 7.52% (n=652) was observed in the number of tests. Conclusion: As a result, unnecessary test requests, which have a significant place in hospital cost expenses, are considered to be correctable by LVKs as in HbA1c example
