THE REFERENDUM AFTER 1960 M？L？TARY COUP AND TELEGRAMS OF DEMOKRATES FROM T？RE

Tire, whose history goes back to ancient antiquity, is a socio-economically important settlement from past to present thanks to its geographical position with its efficient meadow hosting the Little Meander (Kü？ük Menderes) River. Throughout history, it had the feature of having social and economic prosperity as well as being a settlement in which people were concerned with politics. One of the reasons for this is the fact that during the Ottoman Empire, Tire was the place of exile of political prisoners. In the Republican period, Tire maintained the characteristic of being one of the significant centers of the region. After the implementation of multi-party democracy, the district organizations of the Republican People's Party and the Democratic Party were quite influential on the public opinion. The first referendum of the Turkish political history of the Republican period was applied for the voting of the Constitution prepared after the revolution in 1961. Via referendum, citizens have the opportunity to have a direct voice in the major developments in the country’s governance. The purpose of this study is to analyze the results and evaluate the first referendum process in Turkish political history for the Constitution prepared after the military coup of May 27 in Tire, which is a remarkable center of the region from the Ottoman Empire to Republican period
