SOMA IN THE TURKISH WAR OF INDEPENDENCEKeywords: Soma,Milli Mücadele,Soma Tarihi Abstract: The First World War ended with Armistice of Mudros. This treaty, which had very severe conditions, laid the groundwork for the invasion of Anatolia. Although the Greek progress that started in Western Anatolia after the occupation of Izmir reached to Soma borders in a short period of time, this line could not be captured by the Greek military force until the summer of 1920. During this period, Some Cinge front as border line with the occupation zone was an important center of resistance. Soma was occupied by the Greeks on 24 June 1920 with the general Greek attacks that began on 22 June 1920. During the Greek occupation, martial law was applied in Soma. A parliament was formed for the administration of the city. This assembly was taking the instructions from the Greek headquarters in Izmir. Soma, under occupation for more than two years, had all the negative sides of the occupation as it was experienced in many other Western Anatolian cities. The Greek occupation in Soma ended on 6 September 1922
