Science, Thought and The University: Readings on The Problematic Nature of The Modern Turkish Thought

This study is designed to understand problematic present state of Turkish science and thought. In this context, selected works have been examined in the fields of science history, thought history, political history and the universities. To this end, critical readings were carried out and following conclusions are made: First, the number of works related to the aforementioned fields is insufficient in quantity and unsatisfactory in quality. Second, scientific activities and universities in the country are relatively new, and therefore it is not yet possible to mention a switch from the "translation-transfer" scientific activities level to the production of “original knowledge". Third, studies carried out in these fields are shaped by assumptions with highly ideological tone which in turn, dims the reality. Finally, a tradition of these areas has not yet been established and it is necessary to provide an explanation with regards not only explicit but also implicit factors
