TREATMENT CENTERS IN SELENDI DISTRICT OF MANISA

Selendi District is among the Manisa’s districts, which are far from the city center, have least cultural alteration, and stick to their customs. Therefore, it is observed that traditional treatment methods are applied frequently. Especially in the villages of Selendi, when a person has a disorder, before seeing a doctor, s/he prefers treatment methods, which s/he learned, from his/her ancestors and elders. The person having a disorder sees a doctor after trying traditional treatment methods, or refers traditional methods in case of modern medicine finding no way. It is also observed that the district’s folk apply to centers or folk healers with other reasons. Foremost among them come financial reasons, uneducatedness, being witness to treatment of illness at surrounding centers, making use of folk medicine methods based on reasons such as distrust fullness to modern medicine and doctors for some of the illnesses. Center culture is an important custom which arrived today by being handed down from generation to generation. Centers, which treat patients, are quite common in Selendi region, too. Stated centers in the district are busy with only one illness’ treatment as well as several illnesses’ treatments. According to the research held by us, it is observed that the centers, which treat actively in Selendi region, are becoming rich. Therefore, the centers treat which illnesses are determined by doing a field study
