THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND GREEN GROWTH

With the industrialization, an increase has been experienced in the existing environmental problems. People's attitude towards nature have changed with the increase in environmental problems. The conscious stance of governments, non-governmental organizations and people towards nature have brought along the efforts to solve the problem. This solution suggestions became concrete in 1972 and accelerated the emergence of sustainable development. Today, sustainable development is a concept, which is used often while remaining controversial. Negative environmental, economic and social incidents, which have begun with 21. century, have revealed the need for reconstruction of sustainable development. With this structure, sustainable development will continue while gaining new momentum. What will provide this new momentum is the emerging green growth in Asia-Pacific, in 2005. In this study, sustainable development and green growth (which is the new vision of sustainable development) concepts are analysed and a general assessment of the relationship between them is done. On this occasion, the study aims to explain the developments from sustainable development to green growth, and explaining the relationship between sustainable development and green growth by indicating the indicators between them. What lies at the bottom of green growth concept is sustainable development. In this sense, green growth emerges as three basic obligations arise. These are sustainable development, an economic policy and unsustainability and inefficiency of the resource utilization of current economic system.
