The Leadership Politics of Nur al-Din Mahmud B. Zangi

Leadership phenomenon has been continuing its importance and popularity ever since the first human communities. From the times it had begun being studied scientifically to this day, though a lot of leadership models have been formed, so leadership still keeps its status of being a concept that is not agreed on. The sitiuation is even more complicated when it comes to the criticism of the leaders. "The Leadership Politics", understanding the processes in the background of the actions of the leaders and from this point of view, examining their objective and their decision mechanism, is analysing leaders with an integrated approach. Nur al-Din Mahmud B. Zangi; with his examplary life, vision and determination; had formed an interaction based on trust between his followers and himself and by ensuring political unity in Middle East which was struggling with Crusader invasion and the feuds of local governors at the time and achieving tactical victories against his enemies, he had assumed the role of transformational leader in the region. In this study, basing on Nur al-Din Mahmud Zengi's political life and his activities, his leadership politics are analysed. Upon examining his leadership politics, it can be said that Nur al-Din Mahmud b. Zengi's leadership style was far ahead of its time and he can be shown as an example when training leaders in our days as he was an model leader
