Fungal Biocontrol Agents and Their Secondary Metabolites

The fungus produces a large number of secondary metabolites of low molecular weight called polyketides, non-ribosomal peptides and terpenes. Although not directly involved in basic metabolic processes such as growth and energy production, secondary metabolites exhibit a range of biological activities that contribute to the survival of the producer organism in an occupied ecological niche. Studies on the use of secondary metabolites produced by fungi for biocontrol of pests, weeds and diseases due to exhibited bioactivity have been intensively concentrated in the last 10 years
