Islam and Jerusalem

In this article it is dealt with the place and importance of Jerusalem in Islam and what it means from the viewpoint of Muslims. As is known, Jews, Christians and Muslims dominated the Jerusalem in different times throughout history and Jerusalem witnessed the significant struggles. Every religion has some important and holy places. We can refer to some points which make Jerusalem important for Muslims. For example, it is addressed to Masjid al Aqsa in Qur’an, we have some hadiths concerning to the subject, and Jerusalem is the first Qibla of Muslims. In this study, we will firstly make some explanations about holiness thought of Islam and the source of Jerusalem’s holiness for Muslims. Then moving from verses and hadiths we will point out where Masjid al Aqsa is and debates about it
