IDENTITY POLICIES FOR IMMIGRANTS: THEORETICAL ASPECTS AND LIMITATIONS

This study aims at researching the theoretical perspectives on immigration policies which is a part of current identity politics and tries to question the limitations of these perspectives. Firstly, the study tries to clarify the conceptual meaning of identity and identity politics and handles the question of how these different definitions built up different policies. Secondly, the study handles the issue of ethnicity and difference as significant parts of identity politics. Lastly, the study tries to evaluate the fact of immigration in respect of identity discussions and tries to present how social changes resulting from immigration are handled by various political perspectives. In this respect, this study focuses on the relationship between the immigration and the identity policies in culturally diverse societies. The study gives coverage to cultural hybridity, inter-culturalism, and multiculturalism as the approaches evaluated in the context of immigration and identity and dwells on the question of how these approaches consider immigration. Much emphasis is placed on multiculturalism as a popular discussion. This study researches on the theoretical perspectives on immigration and identity politics from a critical perspective and reaches the conclusion that these theoretical perspectives have limitations on developing policies for immigrants
