Abstract:

Culture is the material and spiritual values of the people who exist in the same society and live under the same rules. People, who live on a certain piece of land, form a folk culture with their own sense of life, world view, traditions, customs, manners, rituals, morals and religious values. Minstrels and Folk Poets are considered as the traditional pioneers of the people and society in Anatolia. They become a vital part of a widely-esteemed culture. They are the voice of the public with their musical instruments and words. Positive or negative developments in the society are subject to the voices, words and instruments of the minstrels. They express the problems of society. They are also known for their ability to send messages to the future generations. The tradition of Minstrels and Folk Poets are sustained until today with the Master-Apprentice relationship. This study aims to introduce tradition of Minstrels and Folk Poets by focusing on Minstrel Süleyman Duman. Since he passed away, study data was collected by conducting an interview with his son Ali Ekber Duman. The purpose of this study is to turn the Minstrel Süleyman Duman's, who acted as the voice of people from past to present and spread the true life experience among the society, poems into indelible work of art and to carry this cultural accumulation to the future generations. The importance of this study is to bring the life as well as the folk poems and songs of Minstrel Süleyman Duman to academic literature and Turkish Folk Music repertoire. As the study methodology, qualitative research method was used, and literature review, field research and personal interview methods were conducted. The universe of this study is the works of Minstrel Süleyman Duman. The study sample consists of 7 folk songs compiled within the scope of this study. A simple unselected sampling model was used in this study
