Assessment of Turkey's Global Competitiveness in terms of Turkey Railways and Recommendations for Improving the Competitive Effect of Turkey Railways

The competitiveness capacity of countries depends on the economic situation of them in all times. On the other hand, the economic levels of countries rely on how they have developed the infrastructure of transportation system. Since, it is vital to consider the transportation systems in order to evaluate the competitivity levels of countries. Due to fact that, in Turkey, most of the passenger and goods transportation proceed on the highways, it is significant to move the demand from highways to the other transportations sectors, especially railways, in order to have a well-balanced efficient transportation system in the entire country. From this point of view, to increase global competitivity of the country, it is very significant to have a well-designed railway infrastructure to increase usage of railway systems. In this paper, firstly, the overall condition of railway system on the whole country is briefly explained, then with consideration of global competitivity index, the general quality of railway system is evaluated. After then, the possible ways concerning to increase the level of competitivity are tried to explain. In the conclusion, the usage of railway systems in Turkey is less compare to developed countries; hence, to increase the competitivity with those countries it is necessary to increase usage of railways with help of building new infrastructure of railways in addition to enhancing old railway tracks
