After Syrian Crisis Education of Immigrants and Asylum-seekers in Turkey: Past, Today and Future Perspectives

The migration flux towards Turkey from the region in crisis has periodically been the case till the Republic was founded. Communist regime of Bulgaria has caused over 300 thousand Pomaks and Turks to migrate to Turkey in 1989. Then Saddam Huseyin’s persecution to Kurds created the similar migration wave towards Turkey with the number of half milyon people. After Syrian civil war broke out 3.5 milion Syrians migrated to Turkey as a consequence of Turkish “open door” policy. These huge amount of migrated population were either transitive immigrant or permanent immigrant. Both situation urged Turkey to launch an educational policy for immigrants. Albeit most of the immigrants in Turkey is composed of Syrians there are many other different origin of immigrants including Afgans, Iraqis, ？ranians, Pakistanis which are amount to 300 thousands people. In the beginning of the Syrian civil war there had been prevalent opinion that it would have been over soon and as such the expectation of Syrians turning back to Syria gave rise to short term plan to be applied. Due to its geographical location it is obvious that Turkey is to be perodically faced by migration flux in case regional crisis break out. Becasue great amount of immigrants are children and youngs there might be chances as well as risks. Accepting cultural diversity, taking an affirmative steps in adaptation process and settling social harmony is possible by educational policy. Instead of having a false reputation of migration policy that appears only by crisis Turkey must focus on creating of more permanent and sustainable educational policy. This article examines the rhetoric that the politicians and bureaucrats use in the matter of migrants’ educational situation, and the legal and administrative changes that take place after Syrian migration crisis in 2011. In this frame this study provide a perspective for recent condition of Syrian immigrants in Turkey and their problem in education and seeks probable solution for the issue
