Evaluation of Elimination and Eradication Programs for Vaccine Preventable Diseases in Turkey

The history of infectious diseases is as old as human history. Epidemics have affected their lives andhavekilled many people throughout the centuries. In the twentieth century, medical advances, especially the discovery of the microscope,vaccines and antibiotics, have taken important steps in the fight against infectious diseases. The eradication of smallpox from around the world by widespread vaccination studies in the 1970s showed that communicable diseases could be completely eliminated by appropriate strategies and intergovernmental cooperation. According to World Health Organization recommendations, each country carries out immunization programs according to its characteristics. Although there are regional differences, elimination/eradication studies of infectious diseases with appropriate characteristics are carried out. Health organizations come together at regular intervals to assess the situation in the world, identify new targets and strategies for these goals. It was aimed to evaluate the development of the past to the present of elimination/eradication program ongoing for infectious diseases that can be prevented by vaccination in Turkey and all over the world
