TREATY OF ANKARA (12 SEPTEMBER 1963) IN HISTORICAL PERIOD AND ITS REFLECTION IN TURKISH PRESS

One year later then the establishment of the European Economic Community in 1958, Turkey attempted to become a member of this community. But, the desired result could not be obtained. During the four-year period from 1958 to 1963, there were nine negotiotions between the sides. As a result, the Ankara Agreement was signed on 12 September 1963. Thus, a certain level has been reached in Turkey-EEC relations. The Turkish press showed great interest from the beginning. On the newspapers, the benefits of participation to the Common Market were discussed. The official program of the delegation came to Turkey before the Treaty was shared with the readers in detail.
