His poetry wafts with this love of life. His initial works reflect more his road to individuality than they do love. He was never a populist poet. In his view, a poet is one who depicts society through her/his own identity. His poetry ultimately finds a sense of beauty upon which he clung onto in the face of drudgery—a beauty that gave a positive glimmer of hope to the world, and to the ever drifting sands of time. His poetry largely focuses on the people of and/or close to Izmir. Izmir is his most important symbol throughout his works.
