An Identity between Championship and Defeat: Masculinity forms built in WushuKeywords: Toplumsal cinsiyet,hegemonik erkeklik,wushu Abstract: Even though these norms usually carry any women into secondary statute, theycontain different crushing and exclusion practices among men. While hegemonic masculinity values are progressing towards creating an ideal masculinity, they create new contrasts at the same time. To examine this asymmetry occuring among the masculinities that fit and staying out of dominant values or the patterns of power among different masculinities, provides a useful analysis in analyzing the gender regime. In this study, it was aimed to examine how the identity of masculinity was established, which masculinities were approved and which were excluded in wushu, which is a sports branch culturally associated with masculinity. Datas were collected by semi-structured interviews using phemonologhy which is one of research methods of qualitative research method. The participants were constituted by 7 male wushu athletes (48, 52, 56, 60, 70, 75, 80 kg). Data were analyzed by the content analysis method. According to the findings of the research, an ideal male wushu athletes must be hard, should not be crying in the ring, should not be a low weight and stay away from feminine qualities. In this context, the athletes off site these values are marginalized, especially the low weight (48, 52, 56, 60 kg) and non-champion athletes. Also male dominant structure of the field alienates female athletes with different sexist practices. As a result, wushu as a gendered field leads to the exclusion of both male athletes who are not complying with hegemonic masculinity values and female athletes
