Studies For Reconstruction Of The Arabic Gramary Issues

This article is about the impacts of the reformist movements within the Arabic grammar, Nahv, that are active since the 19th century on the area of classification of grammar topics. For this purpose we first analyze how the famous Arabic grammar books classify topics, and then take a look at how this classification is critiqued in the modern era and finally we discuss the theoretical and practical methods employed by the modern Arab grammarians to classify grammar topics. For the last two centuries, the reformist movements within Arabic grammar have accused the method of classification of grammar topics of the classical grammar books with neglecting the meaning by paying attention to form due to their methods being relied on agent theory and i‘rab. According to this critique, various linguistic elements that are supposed to be classified under the same topic are distributed under various topics and the integrity of topics is violated. These critiques had utmost importance in how the topics would be classified in the new books of grammar. The science of Nahv, has been the grammar of Arabic language and is preserved in its classical for being language of Islamic sciences. This also has to do with the fact that classical Arabic is more or less preserved in its form throughout history. However in the modern era, according to the needs of this era, the feature of Arabic as a means of communication is emphasized and as part of compulsory education in public schools enabling an easier teaching of Arabic is pursued. The need for a reform in Arabic grammar was influenced by these reasons as well as the new linguistic developments that emerged in the West in 20th century.
