An Investigation of Teachers’ Professional Motivation Levels and Quality of School Life Perceptions

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to examine the teachers' perceptions of the quality of life in schools and their level of professional motivation. These two variables considered in the study were examined in terms of the gender and seniority of the teachers, and the type of school they graduated from. Then statistical relations between teachers' perceptions of school quality of life and levels of professional motivation were examined. Participants are 134 teachers who work in five primary schools located in the city center of Adana. Descriptive statistics were analyzed in the data collected using the Quality of School Life Scale and Primary School Teacher Motivation Scale, and t-test, one-way variance, correlation and regression analyzes were performed. As a result of the analyses, it was determined that teachers' school life quality perceptions were moderate and their motivation levels were slightly above median. Significant differences were found in the teachers' school life quality perceptions compared to the seniority, while no significant difference was found in the study by sex. It was also found that there was a significant positive correlation between teachers' perceptions of school quality of life and levels of professional motivation, and QSLS scores significantly predicted teacher motivatio
