MENTAL STRUCTURES OF PRE-SERV？CE TEACHERS REGARD？NG VALUES

One of the general objectives of Ministry of Education is to raise citizens who adopt, protect and develop the national, moral, human, spiritual and cultural values. Teachers have significant roles in this process. This research aims to identify mental structures of senior pre-service classroom teachers regarding the values. Having a descriptive survey model design, the research has been carried out with a university located in Anatolia. The research sample consists of 28 senior pre-service classroom teachers who study in this university during the academic year of 2017 and 2018. Research data have been collected through Word Association Test (WAT) developed by the researchers. The data have been analyzed through content analysis and mind maps using breakpoints. Microsoft Excel program has been utilized during data analysis. When the words associated with the national, moral, human, spiritual and cultural values have been analyzed depending on their type, number, being related to these keywords or not, participants have been found to hold weak mental structures regarding values. Mind maps of the participants have been identified to be simple and that there are fewer words and branching in their mind maps
