AN EXAMPLE OF THE USE OF IMAGE PROCESSING TECHNOLOG？ES IN FRUIT GARDENS

ABSTRACT: In traditional agricultural activities, farmers provide information about their crops by hand and eye control during periods such as growing and harvesting of crops. By means of image processing methods, new meanings or many numerical information are obtained from an image. This study was carried out for apple cultivation which has an important place and importance among agricultural activities. In this study, it is aimed to detect and count red apples on trees in an apple orchard by using image processing techniques. In order to realize this aim, a software has been developed in computer environment. The software finds the apple tree images transferred from the digital media and the apples on the tree using image processing techniques. The apple counts were realized by marking the center points of the detected apple objects. The application is able to take images over photos or snapshots or live video. The red apples in the tree were found to be 78.47% successful in color. This can be considered successful for color detection by apple processing methods
