An Artist In Intersection Of Architecture And Painting: Hundertwasser

Architecture may be a consequence of interaction of different disciplines and may also be influenced by art branches. It seems that architecture has been particularly associated with painting and has appeared in a different usage in every period of history. The key criteria that designers base on while devising painting com- position and architectural design are basic design elements and principles. The studies conducted in two fields by Hundertwasser, both an artist and an architect, bear a great resemblance. In this sense, the link between Hundertwasser’s painting and architectural artworks is revealed by means of analysis carried out in accordance with basic design elements and principles. The basic design elements and principles that the artist mainly applied on his paintings and architectural works were examined in his designs. In the study, visual objects were analyzed by graphical and statistical analysis. In the statistical analysis, participatory survey method was employed. The participants were asked to give points from 1 to 6 for each of the art and architectural works (the most effective: 1 – the least effective: 6), One Way ANOVA test through SPSS analysis program was applied. It has been revealed that the architect and painter Hundertwasser especially used color, line and direction items as design elements; repetition and unity as the basic design principles in his paintings and arc- hitectural works more often. The study focused on the paintings and architectural works by Hundertwasser, an artist and an architect, and the similarities between two different disciplines of objects evaluated in terms of basic design principles and elements were analyzed. Beside this, it is believed that the relation established between painting and architecture will be helpful for designers to enhance their creative ability
