An Example of Wooden Post Mosque from Erzurum-A？kale Güllüdere (Pirtin) Village

Güllüdere (P？rt？n) was a village in A？kale district of Erzurum. Güllüdere located on the southeast of A？kale has gained neighborhood status recently through the last legislative regulations. Güllüdere has been moved to the new settlement located on the northwest of the former settlement location after the earthquake occurred on 28 March 2004. The mosque in the neighborhood is the main subject of our research but there is a castle known as Demir Kale located one kilometer away from the neighborhood in the southeast part of the area. The mosque is in the old settlement and located on the northwest direction of the village. The mosque was built in 1825. It was renovated in 1909. The structure is one of the examples of the mosques with wooden ceiling and posts. These kinds of mosques can be detected from early periods to the current day in almost any city of Anatolia. On the one hand, it is possible to identify the traditional traces in the plan of the mosque; on the other hand, it is possible to observe the influence of Late Ottoman Period characteristics on the ornaments of the mosque. It can be asserted that these ornaments were the provincial interpretation of the westernization period patterns (styles) existed in ？stanbul, which was the capital city of the period. Moreover, it is possible to observe similar ornamental characteristics on the structure of other mosques in Anatolia. Therefore, this study posits the identification of a pattern used generally on the structures of mosques in Erzurum region. The study also gives the analytical presentation of the mosque
