SOME NEW FINDINGS ON THE RUSSIAN ATTACKS ON TRABZON AND AKCAABAT IN THE RUSSO-TURKISH WAR OF 1806-1812

A remarkable space was devoted to the developments about the Russo-Turkish War that started in 1806 as represented in the correspondences of Dupré, the first French consul in Trabzon. Dupré reported the Russian raids targeting Trabzon, apart from the preparations and mobility in Trabzon for the Caucasian front during the war. In this context, Russian bombardments, which also affected the consulate’s security in Trabzon, were among the main concerns of the consul. In the war, the Russians carried heavy bombardment on Trabzon and Akcaabat in 1807 and 1810 by their fleet. During these attacks Akcaabat was a crucial port for both the anchorage and military landing site for the Russians. In his correspondences with the French authorities, Dupré reported the arrival of the Russians in Trabzon, their bombardments and the attempts to land on Akcaabat and Trabzon. This paper aims to contribute to the current literature by studying the raids of the Russians in 1807 and 1810 in the Russo-Turkish War of 1806-1812, from the French consul’s perspectiv
