What Pre-service Primary Teachers Think About Instruction of Life Studies Course?

This study aims to receive opinions of the preservice teachers who just started the Primary Teaching Program on how Life Studies course should be instructed. In this study qualitative research method was used and an open-ended questionnaire was applied to 38 preservice primary teachers. The questions in the questionnaire were about why they chose this program and what their opinions were on what would be instructed in Life Studies Teaching in the program and instructional methods to be used. It was found in the content analysis that the preserve teachers preferred the instruction of Life Studies Teaching courses with daily-life examples and real-life events and they thought that it would be useful for them to perform activities about the courses they will instruct in future. Moreover, the preservice teachers provided positive opinions on case study and drama which are the instructional methods that can be used in Life Studies courses. Sharing their opinions of “giving daily-life examples and telling an exemplary situation about the subject” on case study, the preservice teachers also provided the comments “simulation, having the students live the event or performing the event” on drama.
