Two Statue Fragments of a General-Ruler from Metropolis

The purpose of this study is to present two fragments of honorific warrior-commander statues that have been found in recent times at Metropolis Ionia. The legs and drapery fragments were found in 2011 during the archaeological excavation in private field located in the centre of Metropolis. The other one consists of base and cloak, used as a spolia of the modern wall of a cottage at Yenik？y in 2017. Both fragments represent artistic level of Metropolis statuary in the Late Hellenistic and Roman times with their good qualities. The material and techniques are also similar to marble statues of Metropolis. Statues are heavily damaged so it is very difficult to make a decision about them; there are only some preserved parts of garments that can be possibly defined. Both statues must have been standing male figures depicted with their cuirass and military cloaks. Stylistic features, typological comparisons and similarities with some statues of Metropolis show that they might have been produced in the late 2nd-1st cent. BC
