Abstract:

Given the anthropological and linguistic evidence that points to the Turkish origin of Scythian/Saka culture a question this paper addresses relates to the evolution of Turkish women’s lifestyle and social position from the Eurasian steppes to the Anatolian plateau. To answer this question, we will primarily utilize archaeological and written sources to examine the common position of nomadic women in Scythians and other Turkish societies. Subsequently, we will examine the impact of the high position of ethnically turkish women upon Greeks and other societies. Then, we will look at the profile of Turkish women in Turkish legends and histories produced during the conquest of Anatolia and before the Turks became sedentary. Finally, we will attempt to reconstruct the possible features of Bac?yan-? R?m by looking into the transformation in the life-style of women from a nomadic life as occasional mounted warriors to the life of sedentary Turkish women in Anatolian cities
