Abstract:

In this study, it was aimed to adapt Turkish version of Parental Involvement in Secondary Schools: Parent, Teacher, Student Scale Short Form which is developed by Epstein, Connors and Salinas (1993) and also is used in the MINDSET project of Johnson (2014) in order to determine the parental participation of secondary school students towards mathematics education. The original scale consists of 3 sub-scales, the Parent Scale (15 items), the Teacher Scale (12 items) and the Student Scale (14 items) and it is 4-Likert type. For the validity and reliability of the scale, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed on three different sample groups (teacher, student, parents) and the calculated fit indices were calculated at the desired level so as to ensure the degree of compliance of the factor structure of the scales with the collected data (χ2/df<3; RMSEA<.08, GFI>.90, AGFI>.90, CFI>.90, ve NFI>.90). The Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficients of the scales were calculated as > .70 with the reliability coefficients calculated by McDonald's w (omega) coefficients and Spearman Brown's test-half methods. High scores on the scales indicate that high levels of parental participation are achieved in mathematics education. As a result, it can be said that it is an applicable level in Turkey by preserving the structures of the scales as in the original while determining parents’ participation in mathematics education of students
