The Application of Al-Kindi’s Oud Fret Values to the Guitar and Analysis of Enis Gümü？’s piece “El-Kind？”

The objective of this article is to apply Al-Kind？’s oud fret values to the guitar and to analyze Enis Gümü？’s piece “El-Kind？” which is based on Kind？’s ratios. Arabian scientist and philosopher El-Kind？ published the fret values in his book “Risale f？ Hubr Te’l？fu’l-Elhan” in the 9th century. Kind？ calculated twelve tones by using Pythagoras’s cycle of fifths. He applied these values to the oud and added the theoretical fifth string to complete two octaves. These frets are applied to the adjustable microtonal guitar which has movable frets and composer Enis Gümü？ wrote a piece for this tuning system. In the article, the Pythagorean harmonic structure of the piece was analyzed in the context of microtonal polyphony and the deviations of the chords from the twelve tone equal temperament system and their distance from the intervals of harmonic series are examined
