The Perception Of Students Of The Anadolu University About the “City Councils”

The sixth article of the Law No. 5393 describes the duties of city councils. One of these duties was stated as "to increase the activities of children, young people, women and the disabled in social life and make them to take an active role in local decision-making mechanisms". However, young people's participation in the decision-making process through local participation mechanisms is very low. One of the reason for this is that young people do not have information about how to participate in local decision-making processes. This study covers the results of the field work carried out in order to determine the knowledge, perception and attitudes of Anadolu University students towards city councils. Within the scope of the research a survey was conducted with 1005 people. The survey results are important for determining the perceptions of young people towards city councils. By the way, city councils in this framework will be able to self-criticize whether they fulfill their duties
