English Language Teachers Qualifications According to 11th and 12th Language Class Students

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to get the opinions of 11th and 12th grade students studying in the language department of high schools towards effective English language teacher qualifications. This study was carried out in Sivas province. The study group of the study consists of students studying in language classes. The sample was selected by random sampling method and consisted of 40 students from three different Anatolian high schools. The data were collected by a questionnaire including six open-ended questions and analysed by content analysis method. As a result of the study, in order to be effective in teaching English, it was revealed that the course should be practically oriented, rather than abstract information such as grammar and speaking, listening and writing activities should be included more. In addition, it is seen that the classroom environment is important, the course will be more efficient in a fun environment, the teaching should be diversified by using various methods and techniques, and it should be focused on the use of visual and audio materials. Also, it was revealed that the teacher should have a good command of his field and his pedagogical knowledge is important. Teacher should be polite, friendly and positive in character
