Time as a Meta-Methodological Element in Social Sciences

Social scientific approaches strongly depend on cultural distinctions, assumptions and cultural distinctions on a latent time conception. Time is involved in the process of construction of social and historical reality as a cultural component. The examination of the social / historical reality requires the examination of time, which is among the institutionalized elements of society. In culturalist approaches, the issue of time is mainly dealt with in the context of historicism and its critiques. The approaches criticize and pose alternatives to historicism also share some preconceptions of historicism in terms of time conception and the effect of this conception on the preferred methodology. These alternatives lack fundamental questioning of the time conception of modernist social sciences. On the other hand, the emphasis on space in postmodernist social sciences bears the traces of modernist tendency of positioning the other outside a common humanity time. This study firstly aims to present a critical / interpretative perspective on the social scientific methodological reflection of time and the relation of cultural taxonomy with temporal taxonomy and secondly to contribute to this neglected dimension in methodological discussions
