An Evaluation of Beh？et Necatigil's Poems “Yakar？？” “Atatürk” and “Kovboy Filimleri” In Terms of Sound Symbolism

Sounds, which are the smallest units in the establishment of effective verbal communication are combined to form a vocabulary of the language in different ways. Phonetics, one of the sub-branches of linguistics, examines the acoustic and physiological properties of sounds. Sound symbolism based on sound-meaning harmony is an issue that connects phonetics and semantics. Sound- meaning harmony is related to the emotive meaning of the word, since sound plays a big role in the formation of this meaning. Especially in poetry studies, an analysis that will centre the relation between sound and meaning will provide a better understanding of the poetry. In addition, such a study will show how emotion in poetry is supported by sounds. In this study, the poems of Beh？et Necatigil's "Yakar？？", "Atatürk" and "Kovboy Filimleri" were evaluated in terms of sound symbolism. Considering the characters of vowels and consonants in these poems, the harmony of emotions and themes with sounds was evaluated. The poems have been chosen by considering the differences they reflected with regard to emotion and themes. In this way, the connection between the characteristics of the voices and the emotions evoked by them is revealed
