Abstract:

The aim of this study was to develop a nine-item internet addiction scale based on DSM-V internet gaming addiction criteria. The study was carried out with 550 people aged between 18 and 58 years. For exploratory factor analysis with a total of 327 people and for confirmatory factor analysis with a total 216 people were studied. Expert opinion was received within content validity. Factor analysis was performed to determine the construct validity. As a result of factor analysis, a structure consisting of 9 items and one factor was obtained. It was seen that the single factor explained 39% of the total variance of the scale. The KMO (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin) value of the scale was .836 and χ2 value of the Bartlett Sphericity test was found as 758.899 (p=.000). The common variances of the items were found between .22 and .67, and the item-factor loadings were between .45 and .74 and item total correlations were ranged between .35 and .61. A result of confirmatory factor analysis, it was found that fit indices were within acceptable limits (X2/df =2.38, RMR=.06, GFI=.94, AGFI=.90, CFI=.90, RMSEA= .08). Test-retest correlation coefficient was determined as r = .90 and Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient was found as .78. As a result, it was determined that this scale is a valid and reliable scale to measure internet addiction in young adults and adults
