As a secosteroid hormone Vitamin D and cancerKeywords: D vitamini,Sekosteroit,Kanser Abstract: In addition to its well known classical effect on calcium and phosphate metabolism Vitamin D which is actually a secosteroid hormone also has antiproliferative and immunomodulatory properties. Recent studies have shown that vitamin D deficiency may increase autoimmune and cardiovascular diseases as well as cancer risk. Vitamin D deficiency has been reported as a global epidemic in the world. In addition it has been identified as a risk factor for osteoporosis and fall fractures. The right information to ensure normal levels of vitamin D taken from the diet and synthesized by the sunlight is important for protecting against various diseases and cancer.
