A QUALIFIED STUDY ON PARENTS’ AND STUDENTS’ INVOLVEMENT IN PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF TEACHERS

Turkish Ministry of National Education (MEB), from the beginning of 2000's, plans to evaluate the performances of teachers and school administrators in public schools on the basis of multiple data sources. In this system, which is also referred to as the 360 Degree Performance Feedback System in the literature, it is also aimed at evaluating the performances of the employees, not only based on views of their superiors but also their colleagues, subordinates and those who receive service from the institution. In order to implement this system, MEB prepared a regulation draft in 2017. In this study, it is aimed to take the parents’ views about the involvement of parents and students for the first time in evaluation of teachers’ performance. The research which aims to take the views of parents for the system is the first one. Individuals sampled in the study were selected by means of maximum diversity sampling from purposeful sampling methods. Research design is chosen as qualitative research design and research method is chosen as interview method. The findings reveal that the parents are largely unaware of the new system that MEB would like to implement and that they and their students have remarkable views on the evaluation of teachers and school administrators
