SAFE AND SUSTAINABLE NANOTECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS

Various industry and technology sectors such as cosmetic, textile, coating, catalyst, medicine, electronic, food, energy, and so on, have been improving and changing our lives radically by the help of nanotechnology. Nanotechnology is a discipline which makes it possible to tailor the structure of different materials at extremely small scales. Furthermore, existing materials can be improved based on a specific purpose and it is possible to produce lighter, non-reactive, and much stronger and durable alternatives. There is an increasing attention on nanotechnology applications from research laboratories to industrial and commercial settings. Workers and employers who work with these settings may be exposed to these materials through inhalation, skin contact, or ingestion. However, there is not enough available data regarding the risks of nanomaterials on environment and human health. Besides that, some of these materials may create explosions and fire due to their high surface area, and very low ignition energies and temperatures in the workplace. The goal of this report is to describe the potential health effect and workplace hazards of nanomaterials and develop safety culture of these materials and control method
