A Museum Trip for Preschool Children

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine the views of the preschool children about museum concept. It is thought that this study will contribute to the effective expansion of the museum trip in preschool period. In this study, a case study of qualitative research methods was used. The study group included eleven children (4 girls, 7 boys) attending to kindergarten in Afyonkarahisar, one preschool teacher and three mothers. Within the scope of the study, a museum trip plan consisting of the activities before and after the museum activities was formed and applied to the study group. In this study, semi-structured interview forms with children, teacher and parents were used. The data was analysed with content analysis. As a result of the study, it was determined that children gained positive experiences during the museum trip, they were happy and excited, they were able to set connections between past and today. Furthermore mothers stated that children learned more effective, teacher stated since the museum trips provide solid experiences for children they provide significiant connections to learning process and children could set connections between past and today and museum trips support social lives positively
