Determination of Pollen Performance of Some Cultivars and Genotypes in the Hydrangea macrophylla Thunb. SpeciesKeywords: Hydrangea macrophylla Thunb.,ortanca,?i?ek tozu,TTC,in vitro,?imlenme, morfoloji Abstract: In this study, it was aimed to determine pollen productivity and viability of Hydrangea macrophylla Thunb. ssp in 4 commercial cultivars; Ankong Blue, Ankong Rose, Green Shadow and Screenball, and 4 local genotypes, natural grown in Black sea region of Turkey. Also pollen morphologies were examined by using scanning electron microscop (SEM). The pollen amount per anther was determined by "Hemacytometric Method". Pollen samples were collected in June. The pollen viability ratio was determined by 2, 3,5 Triphenly Tetrazolium Clorid (TTC) test. The pollen germination ratio was determined by "Agar Plate" method with 0, 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20% sucrose. In the study, the numbers of anthers in a flower were determined 7 [Ankong Rose and Ankong Blue] and 9 (Green Shadow and Genotype-4) number/flower, the numbers pollen in anther were determined 676 (Green Shadow) and 3.550 (Genotype-4) number/anther, the numbers of pollen in a flower were determined 6.172 (Green Shadow and Genotype-2) and 31.563 (Genotype-4) number/flower. Morphological normal pollen ratio were changed between 90.32% and 99.59%. According to the TTC test, the absolute viability pollen ratio was ranged between 0.00 and 25.29% (Ankong Blue). The half viability pollen ratio was ranged between 6.59% (Genotype-3) and 97.88% (Ankong Rose). In the germination test, Ankong Rose (%2.03), had the highest rate of pollen germination. Pollen germination of hydrangea cultivar and genotypes increased with the addition of %10 and over doses of sucrose. Generally, the pollen morphology of all examined cultivars and genotypes was similar. Pollen grains are isopolar, apertures types are tricolporate, and pollen shapes are prolate
