Complications in Ultrasound-Assisted Breast Tru-cut Biopsy and Comparison with Other Biopsy MethodsKeywords: Komplikasyon,Meme,Tru-cut Biyopsi Abstract: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and its incidence is increasing. Most of breast cancers are solitary and tru-cut biopsy is one of the basic diagnostic methods. Knowing the complications encountered during tru-cut biopsy and their prevalence will be useful in terms of material, hygiene control and physician self-monitoring. We conducted a retrospective study of 876 patients who had undergone breast biopsy due to suspicion of malignancy. Rates of complications was compared with those of open surgical biopsy and vacuum biopsy. Complications occurred in 10.5% of the total biopsies. In the set of complications, rate of bleeding was 41.22%, rate of complications of local anesthesia was 25.95%, rate of skin infection 12.98%, rate of hematoma 11.45%, rate of mastitis was 5.34%, rate of abscess was 2.30% and finally rate of anxiety was 0.76%. No allergic reactions or aneurysms were detected in the patients. Complication rates of tru-cut biopsy were 1/3 less than those of open surgical biopsy (OSB). Vacuum biopsy complications are slightly less than those of tru-cut biopsy. Bleeding rates are high in vacuum biopsy, while it is a rare complication in tru-cut biopsy. In total tru-cut biopsy is a fast and comfortable method with low complication rates according to vacuum assisted biopsy and OSB
