He established business partnerships and became a member of the British Levant Company as well as a consul. He was the first British consul to Bursa, between 1838 and 1868. This bibliographic study focuses on Sandison, an overseas British citizen in Istanbul, as both a merchant and a consul. The study includes a wealth of information from national archives in Great Britain and Turkey, genealogical search, and nineteenth-century British newspapers
