Travel to the Bukhara Khanate of Meiendorf

Igor Kazimirovic Meiendorf was included in the Russian embassy delegation headed by Alexander Fedorovic Negri, who was sent to the Khanate of Bukhara in 1820 to make various treaties and examinations. The Tsarist Russia intends to recognize the Bukhara Khanate by having people with different characteristics in the embassy delegations. Meiendorf has assumed the employment of secretary in the Russian embassy delegation. He wrote his observations in his journey and in the Khanate in his book entitled Voyage D’Orenburge Boukhara. This work by the Russian writer has been an important work promoting the Turkistan region and the Khanate of Bukhara. In his book, Meiendorf gives information about economy, military system, population, climate, architectural structure, agriculture and trade of the khanate. In our study, Alexander Fedorovich Negri’s embassy delegation, in which the Meiendorf was involved, and his trip to the Khanate of Bukhara were investigated
