Anxiety and Readiness of the Teachers of Turkish and Turkish Culture Courses Related to Their Assignments in Abroad

Abstract:

A qualitative study method has been adopted in this research which aims to determine the readiness and anxiety of the teachers of Turkish and Turkish Culture courses who are assigned to teach abroad. The sample of the study is composed of 171 teachers from different departments assigned to give Turkish and Turkish Culture courses in European countries between 2015 to 2016. The data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 2 open-ended questions and content analysis, being one of the qualitative data analysis techniques, was used in the analysis of the obtained data. The research concludes that the majority of the teachers (60.8%) felt ready to work abroad. Teachers who did not feel ready to go abroad (23.8%) attributed this to personal, program-related and student-related reasons. Anxiety about teachers' foreign assignments emerges in more than one field as social life, students, teaching process and parents
