Natural Radioactivity and Dose Distribution of Coastal Sands: Urla SampleKeywords: Radyoaktivite,Plaj kumu,Gama doz h?z?,K?y? ?eridi,Urla Abstract: The main purpose of environmental radioactivity measurements is to determine the radiation dose that people receive from natural sources and the effects on human health. The greatest contribution of the average dose received by humans comes from natural radiation (86%). The average annual effective dose from natural radiation sources is 2.4 mSv. Most of this dose is the radionuclides (238U, 232Th and decay products and 40K) that have existed since the formation of the world. In recent years, study to determine the radiation doses that people receive from natural sources has been intensified. There are many studies that are concerned radioactivity and the rate of radiation of the coastal line in the various regions of the world. However, there are not enough studies in Turkey. In this study, the activity concentrations of natural radionuclides (226Ra, 232Th, 40K) of beach sand samples taken along the coastline of Urla district were measured by HPGe gamma spectrometry system and the dose rates exposed by people living in this area were calculated. The results obtained are compared with the world average and studies conducted in different provinces. It is seen from the results that the gamma dose rates of the Urla district coastline are not a risk for human health
